Matthew Ray Elenio was born in Plainview, Long Island, and was raised in Hicksville, Long Island for 18 years.
Matthew’s home parish is Holy Family in Hicksville, and he went to elementary, and middle school at Holy Family School for eleven years. Matthew was very involved in his parish, being an altar server for five years, a sacristan for four, an active member in his Parish’s youth group for seven years, and a Eucharistic Minister in his senior year of high school.
After Matthew graduated Holy Family, he attended Holy Trinity Diocesan High School for four years, being on the cross country team for all four years, becoming Captain his senior year. Matthew was also involved in campus ministry as a senior retreat leader and Eucharistic minister.
Along with the 17 years of intense religious influence from his mother, in February of 2016, Matthew went on a retreat to Camp Covecrest in Georgia, where he felt his call to the priesthood, and applied to the Cathedral Seminary House of Formation a week later. He was accepted in April 2016 by Bishop Murphy, and has been a first year college seminarian studying at St. John’s University since August 2016.
